Monitoring aquatic ecosystems across Manitoba

CAMP Regions and Waterbodies

Monitoring under the Coordinated Aquatic Monitoring Program includes waterbodies located on Manitoba Hydro's hydraulic system (on-system) as well as select waterbodies that are not affected by Manitoba Hydro's operations (off-system). For the purposes of CAMP, the hydraulic system was divided into seven regions encompassing all of Manitoba Hydro's hydroelectric generation system.

Explore the regions and waterbodies monitored through CAMP below.

CAMP Monitoring Regions

Lower Churchill River Region

The Lower Churchill River Region includes the Churchill River from the Missi Falls Control Structure at the natural outlet of Southern Indian Lake to the mouth of the river at the Town of Churchill on Hudson Bay. Select a waterbody below to learn more about sampling sites.

There are three sites sampled on an annual basis:

Four sites are sampled on a three-year rotational basis:

Upper Churchill River Region

The Upper Churchill River Region is comprised of the Churchill River extending from the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border downstream to the natural outlet of Southern Indian Lake at Missi Falls and the man-made outlet at South Bay. Select a waterbody to learn more about sampling sites.

There are two sites sampled on an annual basis:

Six sites are sampled on a three-year rotational basis:

Churchill River Diversion Region

The Churchill River Diversion Region is composed of the portion of the CRD that extends from the man-made outlet of Southern Indian Lake at South Bay, through the Rat/Burntwood river system to First Rapids on the Burntwood River, approximately 20km upstream of Split Lake.  Select a waterbody to learn more about sampling sites.

Lower Nelson River Region

The Lower Nelson River Region is composed of the reach of the Nelson River extending from the Kelsey Generating Station downstream to the river's outlet at Hudson Bay, the reach of the Burntwood River between First Rapids and Split Lake, and off-system lacustrine and riverine waterbodies.  Select a waterbody to learn more about sampling sites.

Winnipeg River Region

The Winnipeg River Region includes the Winnipeg River from the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border to Lake Winnipeg, a distance of approximately 120km. this region also includes Manigotagan Lake, an off-system reference waterbody on the Manigotagan River.
